That isn't really what I meant - just now when I encountered the battleship in the scout mission, it was ambushing me, and I ordered my ships to attack - my own battleship squad just kept going and left the battlefield, only to circle around half a minute later, which cost them a lot of attack time and gave away the good angle they had.
My carrier circled closer to the target - I think the were prevented from breaking out since the enemy was right in their path - and ended up defeating the enemy battleship, though his two inner escorts bit the dust.
The outer ones stayed right where they are, and while this is laudable military discipline, I think it would make sense to leave your spot in a formation under SOME circumstances. XD
edit: After finishing all finishable objectives in the Scout mission, quitting and going to try the Assault one, I can't click on any ships in the fleet screen or ship line below, and hence, can't change my lineup to suit the higher point limit. I left the skirmish screen and tried again, but it didn't work. After I restarted the game, it worked. I'll try to reproduce it later, maybe tomorrow.
edit2: on a rather silly note, the launching covettes have a habit of bumping into the carrier when launched manually while the carrier is moving - they seem to be going straight to guard behavior and pick the rear angle to patrol.^^
edit3: after trying for a few fights, it really seems pairing the battleship up with destroyers and leaving the cruisers in their own formations improves their maneuvering, but they still tend to dive away and only actually attack when you first give an attack order - they don't tend to attack what you order them to, either, but that may be since I'm still in "shoot at everything" mode.
edit4: Pressing ctrl+RMB (LMB? I'm left-handed, it's my "LMB") destroys the ship you click at. I think that wasn't in the hotkey list. XD
edit5: Nope, couldn't reproduce being blocked from doing anything in the mustering screen. Enough for tonight. XD
