It is wise to remember, that you and your team are only a few people, each with their own life experiences, that will differ slightly to greatly with the players you hope will enjoy your game. The first impression for the OP was poor, and you hinted maybe he shouldn't be involved in the early access, and should wait on the sidelines until later. But this is the exact person you need testing the game. If all you have are a ton of yes men, telling you how wonderful your game is, and don't change anything because you are a perfect game designer, your game may not turn out as hoped.
Now I also had a bad first impression, although I went straight into fleet customization, because, as you said, that is a large part of the game, which is what I was excited for. I then saw the options to customize my fleet, and a single tear rolled down my cheek. I was hoping for 5 or 6 weapon systems, with 3 to 5 power levels per weapon system.. I was also hoping for a large choice of support modules, that could really distinguish your ships on special actions they can perform. I know it is Early Access, and you will be adding more, but as it stands currently, it feels even after customizing 7 ships, they don't feel that much different from each other.
Another thing is, I don't feel like I was given enough information in regards to weapon strengths, or the non weapon modules. It could just come with time in game, learning such things of course, so it could be on my end entirely.
