There are 3 types of beam weapon: Fading, Instant and Slicing. In the video, the point defense lasers are fading in, siege lasers are slicing and railguns are instant.
The effects are designed in a way to indicate who is firing at who which ultimately takes precedence over the appearance.
Many of the effects in Shallow Space are designed that way, not only to look good but provide depth and perspective clues along with other little trade secrets.
Appreciate the feedback but i'm going to focus on making the game and then tart it up later (not that it really needs tarting up anymore.)
