What drove me in in ShSp was the 3d element. There are many space games where there is 2d space.
Part of 3d nature is 3d movement and how do you make 3d space more tangible to the 2d monitor. In that area i felt your game was making progress to the genre and i love it for it, Even in pre-beta
i love making movements by the old scheme and by using the 'spheres'.
So that notion of changing_battlegrid_elevation + move_on_battlegrid sounds to me a 2d mentality .
So in a nutshell ,taking into account also your argument about clicking on objects in space , i think that instead of making the movement in 3d space more cool , you made it more simple and 2d-oriented.
