Hey, you know that new users can't upload pix?
Well that seems to also apply to uploading avatars and stuff too.
Might wanna fix that, or include it in the 'things you can't do' section for new users.
Very weird. That is interesting as we're able to upload pictures.
Thanks for the heads up, I'll look into it.
Edit: It looks like it's working for some people, but kinda not working for other people...
Hmm... I dunno... other people are able to upload images.
Did you try uploading only once? Did you get any error messages?
Edit: More testing - getting errors here and there. Gonna look further.
If anyone else is getting this error, please let me know. Where you're getting the error and what the error is.
"Sorry, there was an error uploading that file. Please try again."
Tried it a bunch of times.for the avatar, background and User card.
Tried small and large JPG's
Is there a maximum size?Is there a specific file type needed?
There is a 3072 kB file size limit, so it's a plenty large limit. May even want to reduce the size... So something is definitely not working quite right. I'll keep digging.
The issue seems to have resolved itself.
Lemme know if anyone else runs into this issue.
Still happens to me when trying to upload profile images. After a few retries it usually works, though, except for my avatar: it shows up just fine in my profile, but the small avatar in the upper right doesn't show up (unless I use my Gravatar, in which case it's exactly the opposite - the small avatar works, but the big one on the profile page doesn't show up).
A control-F5 fixed the issue for me. There is still a broken image icon in the upper right and on threads that I've posted on on the forum index.
My avatar image fixed itself, it seems. I'm not seeing missing images anymore.
Yeah whatever you just did everything's fixed now.
Stuart!!! Glad to have you over here!
Fixed for me too.
after refresh i was able to upload pix, no problem, for the backgrounds.
But i had to work through about a dozen pix before it would take one for the avatar.
For some reason it allowed a quite large pic, but didn't like the other smaller ones.
They were all jpg's too.
Very weird. Thanks for the update. I'll keep an eye out for it.
Inconsistent bugs are the hardest ones to diagnose and fix.
Tested some more:
It'll take (and shrink/crop) a 3000x4000pixel jpg, but not an 800x1200 jpg.
I tested it with and without complex names (-_ etc)
when i converted one of the offending files to .png it worked.
Thank you very very much for the thorough diagnostic. I'll look into it.
