Yes this is already done, if you look at the screenshots you'll see a Flotilla icon with an overall healthbar for that formation (not currently functioning) and blips to show how many wings that formation contains.
All very interesting, but I want to keep things simple in the first instalment. I also want an isometric macromap, but increasing complexity at this stage only serves to protract timescales and there will be plenty of time to perfect the recipe in a later instalment.
So it might not be perfect on Day 1, but it will become perfect when I have the time and funds to make it so.
There are many types of shielding system, the ones shown in the demo are hit point buffers but some of the more advance shield modules will give less of a hit point buffer and more damage reduction. There will also be modules that reduce damage of certain weapon types, much like Eve.
I'm afraid this likely won't be possible because of the limitation on the number of ships per Flotilla (it'll make sense why when the officers start giving bonuses to ships in their formation) but I now play the game practically resting on the number keys, which is a very efficient way of bouncing around the arena, checking stats and giving orders.
True, there are other things I can do to make it less hideous - I'll likely go down the route of making it very transparent if the ship hasn't took damage in X seconds, it isn't shown at all at full health.
This is also already in game, do you watch the videos??
